Dental Bridges (Fixed Partial Dentures)

Tooth loss affects speaking, chewing, and proper alignment. A dental bridge is a permanent and effective option to replace missing teeth, maintaining the function and structure of your mouth.

Understanding Dental Bridge Options

A bridge fills the gap where teeth are absent by attaching an artificial tooth (called a pontic ) to the adjacent natural teeth (called abutment teeth ).

Type Attachment Stability / Removal
Fixed Bridges Placed by crowning the abutment teeth or bonding directly to them. Permanently attached (cemented); offers more stability .
Removable Bridges Attached to adjacent teeth with metal clasps or precision attachments. Can be taken out and cleaned; offers less stability .

Why is a Dental Bridge Necessary?

Restore Function

Restores normal chewing, speaking, and prevents unusual stresses on gums and oral tissues.

Preserve Appearance

Supports lips and cheeks. Losing a back tooth can cause facial sinking, making your face look older.

Protect Dental Health

Prevents remaining teeth from shifting and minimizes the increased risk of gum disease.

Bridge Attachment & Materials

Procedure Overview (2–3 Appointments)

  1. Preparation: Dr. Ghia prepares the abutment teeth (on either side of the gap) by removing a portion of the enamel and dentin to accommodate the crowns.
  2. Impression: Impressions are taken and sent to a dental lab to ensure the bridge is constructed precisely for correct bite and matching aesthetics.
  3. Cementation: The final fixed bridge (false tooth supported by dental crowns) is permanently cemented onto the prepared natural teeth.

Materials and Maintenance

Bridges can be made from gold alloys, non-precious alloys, porcelain , or a combination . Porcelain is often bonded to a metal base for durability and appearance.

Care is Critical: A strict regimen of brushing and flossing is vital to keep the bridge and surrounding supporting teeth clean and healthy.
